How much do programs cost?
All our programs are FREE. Our goal is to provide accessible services to reach a wide audience of people wanting to improve their lives.
This does NOT include any charges by your wireless carrier for text messages. Standard text messaging fees MAY apply depending on your service plan. If you exceed the message limit of your plan may notice charges on your phone bill for these services. MHI is not responsible for any charges billed by your wireless carrier. See your wireless carrier agreement and pricing plan for details. If you have an unlimited messaging plan there are no additional charges.
What is the difference between the Health Txts Programs?
The main differences between the programs are the level of customization as well as the amount of time it takes to complete the program. Quick Txts take only about 1 minute to complete but you can only receive preprogrammed expert messages randomly between 9am-9pm. Health Txts Reminders and Guided allow for much greater customization. Both programs have the same messaging capabilities such as sending you messages at random or at specific times, sending you text messages that you write and offering the option to receive expert messages. But in the Reminders program you write whatever types of messages you choose in the text boxes; whereas in the Guided Change program you write your messages based on specific behavior change questions that have been proven effective in helping people meet their goals. People wanting a more in-depth program should use guided change.
Can I sign someone up without their knowledge to help motivate them?
No! This is illegal. If you want you can fill a messaging program out with another person but not for them.
Will some messages work better than others?
We recommend being VERY SPECIFIC with your messages. So instead of writing, "don't eat junk" try "eat two pieces of fruit at 10am instead of coffee cake" or instead of "drink water" try "drink 16oz of water now so you have more energy later today." You will find that messages specific to you and your life will be much more effective.

How many messages can I receive per day?
You can receive unlimited messages per day BUT we recommend a maximum of 3-4 messages per day TOTAL.
Receiving too many messages can become burdensome and annoying. Trust us on this one-after about a week it will backfire. Variety in messaging (many different statements for the same goal) is more important than frequency.
You may want to start out receiving just one or two messages a day, a few days a week. Remember, you can always edit your message settings if you want to get the message more frequently!
What if I want to just get the messages from your expert library and not write any of my own messages?
We offer this feature but do not recommend it for several reasons. The most important is that the messages you write are the most effective motivators. Receiving messages solely from our library may help, but it does not require you to think about your problem in the same way. Quick Txts is generally for people who may just be thinking about changing but are not ready to take action.
Can this be a replacement for therapy, medical care or other health and behavior change services?
NO! It is not a replacement. Health Txts is for educational and entertainment purposes only. No-one using our services should stop therapy or medical treatment when using Health Txts nor should they wait to seek treatment for a condition because they are using this program. We do not provide medical advice, diagnosis or treatment or advise health professionals how to treat their patients. Health Txts can supplement other services. It is an informational resource directly to your mobile phone.
My condition is severe. Can I use your programs
If your condition is severe (e.g. severe drug addiction or depression), we recommend speaking to your doctor before using this program. Do NOT rely on this service for serious health decisions or reminders.
Tell me more about your expert messages and the user generated expert messages (Custom Txts)?
The expert messages have been created by Mobile Health Interventions. They are based on the research literature on how people change and include general information messages, coping messages, motivational messages and more.
It is your choice whether to receive these expert messages or not. This is an educational program. We are not responsible or liable for your reaction to the messages sent through Mobile Health Interventions.
Custom Txts are created by users who are professionals in their field. Since anyone can develop Custom Txts, we recommend only choosing expert Custom Txts from reliable sources that refer you to the program.
What if I want to stop using the program?
You can go to the website and clear your messaging options by clicking DEACTIVATE PROFILE after you login. Your service will stop within 48 hours.
What if I want to change some of the messages I wrote after the program starts?
You can go to the website at anytime to change, delete or add messages. Sign back into the program and find the messages you want to change. Then click "edit" or "delete" to modify or delete a message. Every midnight, the system will recognize the new message structure and it will be available the next day.
What if I don't like the messages from the Expert or Custom Txts libraries?
You can email us to let us know your concerns and stop the program. We are not liable or responsible for any messages you deem as inappropriate or harmful. It is your choice whether you use this optional service. If you are concerned you may be triggered negatively by certain messages do NOT use this program.
What about confidentiality, privacy and restrictions?
See Privacy Policy and Terms of Use when you begin your login process.
In brief, we protect your privacy by using secure databases with the latest encrytion technology. While we take all reasonable steps to ensure that your data is secure, we cannot guarentee your privacy. Since we send messages directly through your cell phone carrier, once your messages are transmitted from our database they are as secure as any other text message you would send or receive.
We do NOT sell or rent personal information to third parties and we do NOT promote products or services through our text messages.
Why are some of my messages formatted oddly?
Since we send the messages directly through your cell phone carrier rather than using an outside sms company that charges per message you messages may appear formatted in a strange way on your phone. While using this method allows us to provide free services, it does have several drawbacks such as possibly not being compatible with all phone companies, different messaging formats for different phones and a "new" sender for each message on some phones - among others.
What if I do not receive a message that I wanted sent at a specific time?
You should contact us if you do not receive your messages on time. While we make every effort to ensure that your messages will be sent on time we cannot foresee services disruptions through our server or the phone company. We are NOT liable for any damages that may incur as a result of not receiving a message. Do NOT rely on this service for serious health decisions or reminders.
Why can't I login using my iphone
Although you can receive messages with ANY phone, you cannot access the web-based program through your iphone because the application language (Flex) is not supported by the iphone. We will have the iphone option ready within the next few months.
Are my text messages on an employer-provided cell phone private?
In an opinion issued on June 18, 2008, the 9th U.S. Circuit Court of Appeals ruled that employers must have either a warrant or the employee's permission to see cell phone text messages that are not stored by the employer or by someone the employer pays for storage. While e-mail typically is stored on a company's own servers, text messages usually are stored by cell phone companies and the employer does not directly pay for their storage. That distinction formed the basis for the court's decision. (Quon v. Arch Wireless, et al. (No. 07-55282, DC No. CV-03-00199-SGL)
