Using Health Txts with Your Clients

The programs offered by Mobile Health Interventions can be a useful adjunct to your services. Regardless of your specialty, our messaging programs can help keep your patients and clients committed to their behavior change goals at the times and in the places they need it most. Whether you are simply offering advice based on results of a physical exam or are a mental health professional whose primary therapeutic focus is behavior change, Health Txts can help your clients meet their goals.

For Health Professionals

For those professionals who offer health advice but typically do not perform full therapy sessions (e.g. primary care physicians, physicians assistants, dentists, physical therapists and other health professionals), the programs offered by Mobile Health Interventions can provide that extra support that your patients need to change their behavior without overwhelming you or them.

Have you been frustrated by non-adherence to medication, therapy or behavioral regimes? Have you ever recommended that a client reduce their alcohol intake or change their eating habits or begin exercising and realize at the next appointment they have not changed their behaviors? Sometimes people are not ready to completely change and need a bit more support than a recommendation.

Starting is as simple as adding- "there is a program that might help you (insert goal) called Health Txts" to your care recommendations.

For Mental Health Professionals

For those professionals whose main focus of care is on behavior change treatments (e.g. psychologists, psychiatrists, social workers, EAPs, other mental health professionals), our programs can supplement in-session activities by making the clients change goals more salient at the times when they are most likely to engage in their unhealthy behaviors.

If you decide to use Health Txts we recommend having clients use the Guided Change program. You could also complete the program with your clients to help them explore the reasons why they engage in their problem behavior and ways to change but clients are also welcome to complete the program on their own.

Based on the literature on self-statements being important mechanisms of change, we do not recommend writing the messages for your clients. Rather, we recommend exploring the questions covered in the program with the client and to help write the messages in their own voice.
